FCS increase good Memories

Memories came to Melita Ground with the ambitions of revenge on their mind, and looked dangerous for 7 minutes until FCS showing their clinical ability to counter-attack.
After having just faced last year league champions in the league, it was now time for FCS to meet them again in the Xmas Cup. With Memories looking to revenge the two weeks old 0-4 defeat, and FCS announcing ambitions of winning the quadruple, we were in for a classic.
Clinical counter-attack
Memories came with obvious ambitions, and started to push forward in the initial stages of the game to take an early lead. In fact, on the fifth minute, Scicluna’s shot from outside the box just went off the post.
Memories continued to have most of the possession until on the 8th minute when Joelsson took control of an opponents’ cross and started a swift counter attack with LARS JOHANSSON going past the opponents’ last man and finishing off the move to make it 1-0.
FCS takes over
Five minutes later, FCS could have doubled the lead but Dedering squandered an easy chance in front of the keeper after some good work by Deeks on the right. However, the second goal was only postponed by a couple of minutes when a long ball by Nyberg was cleverly flicked on by Johansson and CLAES HANSEN had no problem to beat the keeper from close range.
Memories tried to get back into the game and they nearly pulled one back when from a corner, an unmarked Magri hit the bar. Just before half time, Dedering put in a cross from the right but Deeks’ shot went over the bar.
Getting comfortable
FCS started the second part strongly in order to book a place in the semi final. 7 minutes into the second half a low cross from the right by Dedering was blundered by the opponents’ keeper and CHRISTOPHER DEEKS had the easy task to put the ball in. On the 50th minute FCS scored again after a fine move started by Hertz on the half way mark, continued by Deeks and finished off in style by LARS JOHANSSON whose low shot gave no chance to the keeper.
The fifth and final goal came just 3 minutes later when Hertz brilliantly sent CLAES HANSEN through on goal and the left winger slotted the ball past the opponents’ keeper to complete his brace. Asked how he felt about scoring the 2 goals Hansen jokingly said “I was lucky” and added that he was very happy with both his and the team’s overall performance.
Semi Final in two weeks
From that moment on FCS controlled the game and kept possession in order to limit their opponents’ dangerous moves. Joelsson was alert on a couple of long range shots which he saved with ease. Five minutes from the end Deeks missed a golden opportunity to score his second goal after some good foot work by substitute Vedstesen.
After the match captain Nyberg commented that the referee should not have disallowed his goal and stated “I do not get many chances”. Joelsson was very happy that the team got through to the next round and said that “I am now really looking forward to the semi final which is played in the evening on December 14th”.
